MURDER AT

CHECKMATE MANOR

by David McGillivray & Walter Zerlin Jnr

Wednesday 8—Saturday 11 July 2009

Evenings at 7.45 pm

The Playhouse, Bath Road, Cheltenham

Tickets can be got by ringing Mrs Newman or Miss Clark on 01242 522852 between 10 am and 4 pm on any weekday and between 10 am and 2.30 pm on Saturdays.  They are priced at just £10 with £8 concessions (but not on Saturday night, I’m afraid—our treasurer, Mrs Beasley, put her foot down on that score, but it’s still not much for a good night out, really, is it?).  This is our second visit to The Playhouse, but it’s had a coat of paint or three since we were last there with our production of ‘The Scottish Play’.

You’d probably like to know a bit about the plot, but as it’s a thriller, it would rather give the game away, wouldn’t it?  Suffice it to say that there will be lots of mounting, tension and excitement as Inspector O’Reilly tries to identify the mass murderer among the family at Checkmate Manor.

The cast are currently being put through their paces by director David Mumford.  Unfortunately Reverend Reg Bishop was unable to direct as usual this year following an unfortunate incident when he tried to ride his bicycle without a saddle.  He’s since been defrocked.  However, we are grateful to Mr Mumford, from the Deep End Theatre Company, for stepping into the breach.

Hopefully, Gordon Pugh will be bringing his new digital camera to take some photos of rehearsals which will we post on this page of the website, once I’ve learned how to put them on.  In the meantime, you can read about how things are coming along at my personal blog which you can go to now by clicking HERE.

Oh, and we have to say at this point—because it says so on our licence—that this is an amateur production (not that you’ll be able to tell) by arrangement with those lovely people at Samuel French Ltd.
